Cavalier Golfers Enter Final Round of East Regional in Ninth Place

Athens, GA – The Virginia women’s golf team enters Sunday’s final round of play at the NCAA East Regional Championships at the University of Georgia Golf Course with a solid chance of advancing to the NCAA Championships. The top eight teams in the field of 21 will move on to the national tournament. Following Friday’s second round, the Cavaliers are ninth overall at 606, including a second-round score of 310. New Mexico is just one shot ahead of UVa in eighth place and Wake Forest is three shots better in seventh place at 603.
The scores were much higher for the field during the second round. After nine teams shot better than 300 in Thursday’s opening round, just one team managed that Friday.
Virginia freshman Joy Kim leads the Cavaliers in 18th place at 150. She shot 5-over 77 in the second round. Whitney Neuhauser is one shot behind her in 25th place while Calle Nielson is 33rd at 152. Neuhauser shot 79 Friday while Nielson carded a 78. Lene Krog turned in the team’s best second-round score at 4-over 76 and stands 49th at 154. Jennie Arseneault dropped back to 71st at 157, including an 80 in the second round.
Florida moved past Duke for the overall lead at 585 by shooting the day’s best round at 7-over 295. The Blue Devils are at 588 followed by South Carolina at 594.
South Carolina’s Benedicte Toumpsin leads the field at 6-under 138. Duke’s Amanda Blumenherst and Louisville’s Sara-Maude Juneau are tied for second at 141.
Virginia will tee off at 9 a.m. during the final round, starting on the first tee. The Cavaliers are paired with New Mexico and Wake Forest. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
