CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia senior Lauren Dickson has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III volleyball team. Dickson is making her second-straight appearance on the academic all-district team and is one of eight Atlantic Coast Conference players named to the District III team.

A commerce major from Austin, Texas, Dickson has been selected to the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team twice and is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member. The outside hitter is second on the team in kills and third in digs this season. She was named the MVP of the Marriott Jefferson Cup and to Nebraska’s Ameritas Players Challenge All-Tournament Team.

Dickson is on pace to become the 14th Cavalier to break 1,000 career kills. She was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2006, has earned MVP honors at the JMU Tournament in 2008 and was selected to the VaSID All-State Second-Team and VaSID Academic All-State team as a junior.

To be eligible for the consideration on the academic all-district teams, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.30 cumulative GPA in both undergraduate and graduate work and have completed a full year at their institution. Dickson, and all the other players named to the eight all-district first-teams, will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
