ATLANTA - Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan has been named a recipient of the 2010 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Victory Club Award, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Wednesday (March 10).
The RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Victory Club Award is presented to each WBCA-member head coach who achieves career wins of 200, 300, 400, 500 or more, in 100 victory increments.
Ryan earned her 700th win in the Cavaliers' season-opener on Nov. 13 at UMBC. Virginia defeated the Retrievers, 68-57. For her career, Ryan has compiled a 720-307 record.
In her 32 years at the helm of the Virginia women's basketball program, Ryan has recorded 20 or more wins 23 times and 30 or more wins twice en route to 23 NCAA Tournament appearances and three Final Four berths.
In July of 2008, Ryan was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the 10th anniversary class.
"RUSSELL ATHLETIC continues to be committed to women's sports by innovating the newest women specific uniforms and apparel," said Gary Barfield, Executive Vice President, RUSSELL ATHLETIC. "Through RUSSELL ATHLETIC'S dedication to women's athletics, we are proud to honor the WBCA's Victory Club award winners. These coaches' accomplishments enable new vision for all student-athletes."
