Toledo, Ohio - The Virginia men’s golf team was in a tie for 24th place on the leaderboard when play was suspended during Wednesday’s second round of the NCAA Championships due to darkness. The Cavaliers were not able to start their round until 5:20 p.m. due to a four hour and 25 minute weather delay when thunderstorms rolled through the Toledo area where the tournament is taking place at the Inverness Club.

Virginia’s five players on the course managed to play between 11 and 13 holes when play stopped. As a team, the Cavaliers stood at 7-over for the round entering a very difficult stretch of holes on the front side of the course. UVa shot 22-over 306 during the tournament’s first round. The Cavaliers benefited from the late start as only a light breeze blew on the course after stronger winds impacted the field before play was suspended.

Senior Conrad Von Borsig had the best round in progress. He stood at 1-under after 11 holes. Von Borsig, who is playing in his first NCAA Championship, shot 9-over 80 during Tuesday’s opening round.

Ben Kohles, who led UVa during the first round with a 4-over 75, was at 2-over after 12 holes. Bruce Woodall, Kyle Stough and Will Collins all stood at 3-over. Collins and Woodall had completed 13 holes and Stough was through 12.

Of the teams that completed their second rounds, Oklahoma State leads the field at even par 568 after 36 holes. Georgia is five shots behind the Cowboys at 573. Texas A&M is third at 574 and Arizona State is fourth at 575.

Georgia’s Russell Henley and NC State’s Matt Hill lead the individuals who have completed two rounds at 4-under 138.

The second round will resume at 6:45 a.m. After its completion, the teams will be assigned their final round tee times that will be determined based on the standings after the first 36 holes. If the final round is not complete Thursday, play will resume Friday morning. The top eight teams after 54 holes of stroke play will advance to a head-to-head match play format to determine the national champion. The individual champion will be crowed at the end of 54 holes of stroke play.
