Despite holding top-ranked North Carolina to below its season average in shots, short corners and goals, the Cavaliers fell to UNC 3-0 today at University Hall Turf Field. The Tar Heels (16-0) got goals from three different people to claim the ACC victory. Devon Burnley led the Cavaliers with seven shots, all coming in the second half.

The Tar Heels got on the board early in the first half as Britt van Beek sprung Katelyn Falgowski in the circle; Falgowski scored in the fourth minute to give the Tar Heels the early lead. Sixteen minutes later Allison Tanner sent a ball into the circle that was tipped into the cage by Heather Kendell to give the Tar Heels a 2-0 lead at 19:15. The teams took the 2-0 score into halftime.

Burnley made seven saves in the second stanza but the Tar Heels were still able to get on the board as Jesse Gey stuck home a rebound at 61:18 for the final score of 3-0. The Cavaliers held the Tar Heels to only eight corners while taking two in the second half.

Virginia returns to action on Wednesday as the Cavaliers travel to Farmville to play the Longwood Lancers. Game time is 6 p.m.
