Virginia Competes on First Day of NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Virginia women’s swimming team competed well on day one of the 2008 NCAA Championships, closing out with a solid performance in the 400 medley relay. The event is being held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the Ohio State campus.
Mei Christensen, Megan Evo, Liz Shaw and Stephanie Glover teamed up to post a time of 3:39.71, besting the previous team season-best time by four seconds.
In the other relay of the day, Kristen Wallace, Jessica Lewis, Glover and Hannah Davis also narrowly missed the finals, swimming a time of 1:31.04 in the 200 free relay. Their 18th-place time was also the fastest time of the 2007-08 season for the Cavaliers.
Jenna Harris placed 23rd in the prelims of the 500 free with a season-best time of 4:45.24. Teammate Jen Narum was right behind her, placing 25th and touching at 4:45.44.
Lewis participated in the 50 free, taking 51st place with a time of 23.18.
Shaw led the Cavaliers in the 200 IM, placing 25th with a time of 1:59.79. Evo followed, posting a time of 1:59.83. Claire Crippen (2:00.87) placed 37th in the event.
The NCAA meet continues Friday with the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 3 meter diving, and 800 free relay.
