CHARLOTTESVILLE – Top-ranked Virginia completed an undefeated regular season with a 7-0 win over No. 30 Wake Forest Sunday afternoon before a Snyder Tennis Center record 859 fans. The Cavaliers (25-0, 11-0 ACC) finished the ACC regular season unbeaten for the second consecutive season and the third time in the past four years.

“To go through an entire regular season undefeated is so hard to do,” said head coach Brian Boland. “It doesn’t happen very often so this is obviously a big moment for our program. It is a special accomplishment and we realize what an achievement it is.”

The Cavaliers opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) topped Cory Parr and Steven Forman 8-6. Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) clinched the opening point with their 8-4 win over Jonathan Wolff and Jason Morgenstern at No. 3 doubles. Dominic Inglot (London, England) and Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) completed the sweep with a tiebreaker win over Mariusz Adamski and Carlos Salmon at No. 2.

In singles, the fourth-years led the Cavaliers on Senior Day as Virginia swept all six matches in straight sets. Huey topped Parr 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Angelinos downed Wolff 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, and Devvarman defeated Forman 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 position as all three seniors completed unbeaten ACC campaigns. Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Andrew Brasseaux at No. 6 singles, Shabaz topped Morgenstern 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, and Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) defeated Adamski 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles in the other three matches.

The Cavaliers, who captured their fifth consecutive ACC regular season title with their win over NC State on Friday, made it their third undefeated ACC campaign with the win on Sunday.

The crowd of 859 fans is the largest in Snyder Tennis Center history, breaking the record of 637 set earlier this season against Miami. It was also the third largest crowd overall for the Cavaliers.

“The crowd made this day even more special,” said Boland. “They have come out in big numbers all year and that support has meant so much to us. For us to have a Snyder Tennis Center record today on Senior Day is a great honor for our fans to give to this team.”

Virginia will travel to Altamonte Springs, Fla. next weekend for the ACC Tournament, looking for their fourth title in the past five years. After a first round bye, the Cavaliers will open play in the quarterfinals on Friday.
