CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 19 Coastal Carolina scored four runs in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 deadlock and win, 8-3, Tuesday night at No. 16 Virginia in baseball action at Davenport Field. A replay of the game can be viewed at ACCSelect.com.

Dan Grovatt (Fr., Tabernacle, N.J.) and Corey Hunt (So., Charlottesville, Va.) each had two hits for the Cavaliers. David Anderson recorded three hits and two RBI for Coastal Carolina.

Pete Andrelczyk (2-0) earned the win for Coastal with 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed two earned runs and four hits. Jake Cowan (Fr., Roswell, Ga.), the third of seven UVa pitchers, took the loss and fell to 2-1 after allowing three earned runs, two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings.

Virginia (29-10) drew first blood with a run in the third inning on a two-out double by Tyler Cannon (So., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) to plate Hunt, who hit an infield single to lead off.

Coastal (29-7) scored three times in the fifth inning. With one out, Rico Noel walked with the bases loaded to force in a run. David Sappelt followed with a two-run single past a drawn-in Hunt at third base to give the Chanticleers a 3-1 lead.

Virginia tied the game in the sixth inning. Grovatt doubled to lead off, moved to third on a David Coleman (Fr., Richmond, Va.) single and scored when the ball was bobbled by left fielder Adam Rice. Franco Valdes (So., Miami, Fla.) followed by legging out his first career triple to knot the score at three. Andrelczyk buckled down from there and stranded Valdes by striking out the next two batters and inducing a groundout to end the inning. UVa left 11 runners on base in the game.

Coastal recorded four in the eighth inning. After the Chanticleers loaded the bases with one out, Anderson hit an RBI single. Jake Rule (Sr., Waynesboro, Va.) walked Tyler Bortnick with the bases loaded to force in another run, and Noel blooped a single to left-center to score two more and give Coastal a 7-3 lead.

The Chanticleers tacked on a run in the ninth on an Anderson RBI single for the final margin.

Virginia starting pitcher Matt Packer (So., Germantown, Tenn.) pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three runs (two earned), four hits and two walks while striking out four. Coastal starter Cody Wheeler tossed 4.2 innings and gave up one unearned run, three hits and five walks with seven strikeouts.

Virginia returns to ACC play this weekend as it plays host to Wake Forest in a three-game series. The teams will play at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
