CHARLOTTESVILLE—Dave Koehn has been named, the new “Voice of the Cavaliers,” for Virginia Sports Properties. CBS Collegiate Sports Properties, a division of CBS Outdoor and the multi-media rights partner of the University of Virginia, announced Koehn’s hiring.

“A chance to become a part of a program like the University of Virginia which has such a rich tradition, is a tremendous honor and truly an opportunity of a lifetime” said Koehn.  “My wife and I are excited to get to Charlottesville and become a part of the University and community family.”

A graduate of the University of Kansas school of Broadcast Journalism, Koehn got his start doing play-by-play for football, basketball and baseball on KJHK in Lawrence, KS.  He spent four years in Texas where he was the voice for Sam Houston State University football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball and then the voice for Texas Lutheran University football, basketball and baseball.  Most recently he has been the voice for University of Vermont men’s basketball broadcasts, as well as serving as the play-by-play voice for the Vermont Lake Monsters.

"I am pleased to welcome Dave Koehn to the University of Virginia community as the voice of UVa Athletics,” said Virginia Athletics Director Craig Littlepage.  “He brings a wonderful combination of enthusiasm, broadcast experience and talent to the position. Dave will help us effectively deliver the stories of our student-athletes, coaches, sports programs and department to UVa fans throughout the country."

Koehn will assume the new position beginning July 7th.

“We are very pleased with the selection of Dave Koehn as the new “Voice” of the Cavaliers, we feel we have a real star in the making” said Doug Paschal, Vice President and General Manager of CBS Collegiate Sports Properties.  “We appreciate the help we received from the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America which allowed us to have national reach with our search.”

Virginia’s 2008 football season begins on Aug. 30 when the Cavaliers host the Trojans of the University of Southern California.
