CHARLOTTESVILLE – Sitting atop the Atlantic Coast Conference standings with an unbeaten 3-0-0 record, the 18th-ranked Virginia men’s soccer team welcomes Clemson Friday night for a key league match-up. Kick-off from Klöckner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ACC Select. To access the ACC Select webcast, click here.

With a 7-3-0 overall record, the Cavaliers returned to the Soccer America Top 25 at No. 18, released Monday.  The next day, UVa shut out visiting Liberty, 3-0, on two goals by Jimmy Simpson and one by Tony Tchani.

Prior to that game, Virginia went on the road to then-No. 12 North Carolina and came away with a 1-0 victory. Tchani converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute to give Virginia the victory.

While Tchani’s nine goals lead the team, several other Cavaliers have contributed to the offense in 2008. Chris Agorsor had tallied four goals before suffering a season-ending knee injury on Sept. 23, while Matt Mitchell and Jimmy Simpson have scored three goals apiece and Brian Ownby has recorded two.

In goal for Virginia, Michael Giallombardo posted his fourth shutout in five starts against Liberty. So far in 2008, Giallombardo has allowed just one goal in 450 minutes of action.

UVa leads the series with Clemson, 24-20-5, in match-ups dating back to the 1968 season. Last season, the Tigers prevailed, 2-1, on their home field.

Clemson (3-4-2, 2-1-1 ACC) is led by Michael Brooks (five goals, one assist) and Hassan Ibrahim (three goals, one assist).

In goal for the Tigers, Joseph Bendik has started all nine games and allowed 18 goals for a 1.88 goals-against average.

The Cavaliers hit the road after Friday’s match, heading to Boston College for a Friday, Oct. 17, match. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
