CHARLOTTESVILLE - Virginia head coach George Gelnovatch recorded his 200th career victory and the 11th-ranked Cavaliers defeated George Washington, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday night. Senior defender Neil Barlow netted the golden goal in the 92nd minute for UVa.

"Winning is a hard business," Gelnovatch said. "Any time a program and a head coach can accumulate 200 wins, it's not an easy thing to do. This game was a reminder of that."

Gelnovatch is in his 14th season at the helm of UVa and has compiled a 200-77-22 career record.

Virginia (5-1) led early, after Tony Tchani (Norfolk, Va.) put away a penalty kick in the sixth minute. It was Tchani's third goal of the season and he scored after sophomore forward Chris Agorsor (Severn, Md.) was brought down in the penalty box.

The 1-0 Cavalier lead continued into the second half, until George Washington forward Yoni Berhanu lofted a cross from the left side in the 79th minute that found Mike Burke. Burke headed in the goal, his first of the season, to tie the game at 1-1.

The score remained tied through regulation, until Barlow (Herndon, Va.) was able to gather a ball played into the box by Agorsor and finish to the far post. Barlow, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, scored his third goal of the season and third game-winner.

For Agorsor, it was the first assist of his career after he scored four goals last season.

In goal for UVa, Diego Restrepo (West Palm Beach, Fla.) had one save. Erik Haug, who entered the game for injured GW goalkeeper Brendan Lafferty, had one save in defeat.

The Cavaliers out-shot the Colonials, 15-6, and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Up next for UVa is a Saturday (Sept. 26) contest against Clemson. Kick-off from Klöckner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
