CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the No. 17 Florida State volleyball team Friday evening in Memorial Gymnasium by scores of 25-12, 26-24, 25-19.

Sophomore Simone Asque landed a match-high 10 kills to pace the attack, while junior Kendahl Voelker knocked down seven. Junior Sydney Hill and Jess O'Shoney both had five kills.

Defensively, senior Brittani Rendina dug a team-high 10 attacks and freshman Rachel Gray contributed eight, while dishing out 24 assists. Hill and Asque also contributed three blocks each.

For Florida State (20-2, 11-1 ACC), Brianna Barry and Stephanie Neville each had nine kills, while Neville also had six blocks. Jordana Price racked up a match-high eight blocks.

The first set started tight with the two squads exchanging the early points of the set. With Virginia leading 5-4, Florida State put together a 5-0 run to pull away from the Cavaliers and never looked back, tacking on a 4-0 run, en route to a 25-12 set victory.

Virginia jumped ahead in the first set, leading by as many as four. The Cavaliers could not maintain their lead, however, as the Seminoles rallied, using three 3-0 runs to take the second frame, 26-24.

The Cavaliers took an early 3-0 lead in the third set, but Florida State responded, mounting a five-point run to overtake the Cavaliers. Once the Seminoles took the lead, Virginia was unable to recover, falling 19-25 in the final set.

Virginia (9-14, 4-8 ACC) will look to rebound on Sunday, playing host to Miami at noon.
