UVa Golfers Finish Eighth at Rain-Shorten Liz Murphey Classic

Athens, GA – After having play canceled for the first two rounds due to rain, the No. 3 Virginia women’s golf team finished eighth at Georgia’s Liz Murphey Classic Sunday in Athens, Ga. The 18-hole tournament was won by No. 7 Auburn at 11-over 299. The Cavaliers shot 306 in the wet conditions.
Virginia was led by the fifth-place finishes of Calle Nielson and Jennie Arseneault. The two UVa competitors finished at 2-over 74. It was Nielson’s third straight top-five outing this spring and the seventh top-10 result in her career. Arseneault’s finish tied as the best during her career and marked the ninth time she has produced a top-10 showing.
Lene Krog was 30th for the Cavaliers at 77 while Whitney Neuhauser shot 81 to finish 67th and Kristen Simpson carded an 82 to place 75th. Joy Kim, playing as a non-scoring individual, was 88th at 85.
Alabama’s Kathleen Ekey finished first at 3-under 69.
The Cavaliers play their final regular-season tournament next weekend in Greensboro at the Bryan National Collegiate that runs April 3-5.
