Awendaw, SC – The Virginia men’s golf team finished second at the 15-team Hootie @ Bulls Bay Tournament marking the third time this spring the Cavaliers have placed first or second in their four outings. Virginia shot 7-under 277 during Tuesday’s final round to complete the 54-hole tournament at 9-under 843. August State won the event at 17-under 835.

Virginia’s finish allowed the 45th-ranked Cavaliers to place ahead of seven teams ranked above them in the Golfstat standings. That list includes No. 14 South Carolina (3rd, 846), No. 18 Central Florida (4th, 848), NC State (5th, 850), No. 5 Clemson (7th, 855) and No. 24 Wake Forest (7th, 855)

Will Collins recorded his third top-five finish in his last four outings by placing fourth overall at 6-under 207. Conrad Von Borsig was fifth at 4-under 209. Both players shot 3-under 68 during the final round. Kyle Stough used a final score of 67 to improve to a 33rd-place finish at 4-over 217. Ben Kohles was 36th at 218 and Cole Willcox was 69th at 230.

Collins’ effort was the best tournament score of his career and marked the fourth time he has placed in the top-10 of an event. Von Borsig also bettered his previous best scoring total and his final round 68 equaled his low 18-hole total.

The Cavaliers are off until they play at NC State’s Wolfpack Invitational April 10-12.
