Greensboro, NC – For the second time this season, Virginia sophomore Calle Nielson tied the school’s single-round scoring record, helping the third-ranked Cavaliers finish second in the 18-team Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro. Virginia shot 1-under 287 during the final day to complete the 54-hole event at 27-over 891. LSU, ranked No. 9, finished four shots ahead of Virginia to claim the team title.

Virginia’s final round score marked the only time all weekend a team posted a score below par. The Cavaliers were led Sunday by Nielson’s 5-under 67, the lowest single-round score of the event. It marks the second time this spring Nielson has tied the school scoring record. She also shot 67 en route to tying for first at the LSU Classic three weeks ago. That finish helped her claim ACC Player of the Month honors.

Nielson, who started the day in 28th place, began her round with a bogey and then managed birdies on six of her next 10 holes. He tied for sixth place overall with teammate Jennie Arseneault at 5-over 221. Arseneault carded a 72 during the final round. It was Arseneault’s 10th career top-10 finish and the eighth for Nielson.

Nielson has either led or tied as UVa’s scoring leader in its last four tournaments this season.

Lene Krog also shot 72 during the final day and finished 13th for the Cavaliers at 226. Whitney Neuhauser posted a 76 to tie with Krog at 10-over par. Kristen Simpson was 35th at 230 and Joy Kim, playing as a non-scoring individual, was 74th at 239.

LSU’s Megan McChrystal claimed medalist honors by three shots at 1-under 215.

The field for the Bryan National Collegiate include nine schools ranked in the current Golfstat top-25 and 15 of the squads are listed among its top-50 teams.

The event was UVa’s final regular season tournament. The Cavaliers begin postseason play April 17-19 at the ACC Championships held at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
