CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team (12-7, 7-3 ACC) recorded its second straight sweep Sunday, a 3-0 victory over North Carolina. Game scores were 30-15, 30-24 and 30-27.

After dropping a tough loss on the road to Virginia Tech Tuesday, the Cavaliers rebounded nicely with sweeps over NC State Friday and the Tar Heels Sunday.

Four players tallied double digit kills for Virginia, led by Sarah Kirkwood’s match-high 18 kills. Shannon Davis finished with 11 and Katie Oakes and Tara Hester each added 10 kills apiece. Kendahl Voelker also pitched in nine kills. Freshman setter Kelly Irvin recorded 46 assists in the winning effort.

Melissa Caldwell paced the defense with a match-best 15 digs, while Kirkwood and Hester recorded 13 digs each, and Irvin had eight. Davis and Voelker had three blocks each for the Cavaliers.

Virginia hit .267 for the match, including a solid .395 in game one over the Tar Heels. Individually, Oakes hit .444 with just two errors in 18 attempts, and Davis hit .429, also with just two errors in 21 attempts. North Carolina hit .139 against the Cavaliers.

Christine Vaughen led North Carolina (8-10, 4-5 ACC) with nine kills while Stephanie Jansma chipped in 11 digs.

Virginia will play the next four matches on the road, beginning Friday at Wake Forest. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.
