CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Four pre-conference tournaments, including the Jefferson Cup Tournament, 14 home matches in Memorial Gymnasium and three match-ups with 2007 NCAA Tournament participants highlight the 2008 Virginia volleyball schedule.
The Cavaliers are coming off an 18-13 season that saw them go 13-9 in conference action and finished the season tied for fourth-place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This seasons squad will welcome first-year head coach Lee Maes to the helm and look to reach new heights in Virginia’s 30th season of competition.
Virginia begins its slate on Aug. 29-30, when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to participate in a two-day tournament with Murray State, New Hampshire and James Madison.
The Cavaliers will remain on the road the following weekend, as the squad will travel to Denver, Colo., for another two days of competition. Virginia will face Denver, Tennessee and Iowa before returning home to host the Jefferson Cup Tournament, featuring meetings with Virginia Commonwealth University, Binghamton and Appalachian State.
Prior to the start of conference play, the Cavaliers will travel to Chicago, Ill., to participate in a tournament at Northwestern. Featured match-ups will be with the host Wildcats, NCAA Tournament regional finalist UCLA and Georgetown.
Virginia begins ACC play on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at instate rival Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. This will mark the first year that the conference has incorporated a 20-game format versus the 22 matches in years past. Each team will play everyone home and away except for one travel partner pair. Virginia will host all 11 conference opponents this year, but the Cavaliers will not travel to Miami and Florida State.
Highlights on the home slate will consist of a contest against Georgia Tech (Sept. 26) before a meeting with NCAA Tournament participant and 2007 ACC Champion Clemson on Sept. 27. Fellow NCAA Tournament participant Duke and Wake Forest will visit on Oct. 17 and 19, respectively, before Miami and Florida State come to town on Oct. 24-25.
North Carolina (Nov. 7), NC State (Nov. 8), Maryland (Nov. 14) and Boston College (Nov. 15) will visit Charlottesville the first two weekends in November and the Cavaliers will close out the regular season hosting Virginia Tech on Nov. 28.

Tickets will be sold for the first time this upcoming season, with season tickets for adult general admission at $50, while youth, senior and staff general admission season tickets are $35. For a single match, general admission is $5. Youth, senior and staff general admission is $4 and group ticketing of 20 or more will be $3 each.
