Virginia All-American Emily Harrison led a pack of four Virginia runners in the top 10 with her first-place finish, helping the Cavalier women take the team title at the Lou Onesty Invitational as Virginia defeated regional rival William and Mary 30-37 today (Sept 8) at Panorama Farms. Lauretta Dezubay and Stephanie Garcia finished third and fourth, respectively, to help pace the women’s side. The Cavalier men put two runners in the top ten, led by Andy Biladeau’s individual title and Ryan Foster’s seventh-place finish, but Virginia was edged out by Duke 35-55 as the Blue Devils ran five in the top 14, including scoring 5-6-7-8-9.

Harrison ran a 17:16.50, which was 50 seconds faster than Emily Gousen of William & Mary, who finished in second. Dezubay and Garcia ran 18:08.7 and 18:15.8 while Sara Casscells finished ninth with her 18:41.8. Susan Brooks (13th) and Samantha Stafford (15th) closed out the scoring for the Cavaliers, while Jen Dolson finished 16th, two seconds behind Stafford, to help push.

On the men’s side, Andy Biladeau won the opening race of the 2007, running 24:25.8 over the 8K course, besting Tamas Kovacs from High Point by 12 seconds. Ryan Foster ran 25:14.8, finishing seventh overall and fourth in the team scoring. Michael Hagos and Trey Miller finished within 12 seconds of each other to run third and fourth for Virginia, while James Erickson led a pack of four Cavaliers, including Alex Bowman, Chris Clark and Alec Lorenzoni who finished 32-35 in a span of seven seconds. Graham Tribble ran seven seconds behind his group of teammates, while Kevin Tschirhardt finished six seconds behind Tribble.

The Cavaliers return to action on September 29 as they compete at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota.
