COLUMBUS, Ohio – At Griggs Reservoir on Saturday, the No. 3-ranked Virginia rowing team posted nine victories against No. 9 Ohio State and No. 10 Michigan.

With a time of 6:20.4, UVa’s Varsity Eight defeated the Buckeyes (6:31.1) in impressive fashion in the morning session, then followed up with a victory over Michigan in the afternoon with a time of 6:18.1.

“This regatta has been a very competitive one for us over the years, and I thought we performed as well as we ever have in the last 10 or so years here,” head coach Kevin Sauer said.

In addition to the Varsity Eight victory over Ohio State, the Cavaliers came away with wins in the First Varsity Four (7:19.8) and First Novice Eight (6:59.9). In the Second Novice Eight, Virginia won the race over Ohio State and Michigan, although official times were not recorded.

Against Michigan, UVa swept races in the Second Varsity Eight (6:43.7), First Varsity Four (7:14.9), Second Varsity Four (7:18.5), First Novice Eight (6:56.9) and Second Novice Eight (6:56.2).

Virginia hosts Michigan State, Wisconsin and Oregon State next weekend (April 12-13) at Lake Monticello.
