David Lewis tied for second place in the pole vault at the Armory Collegiate Invitational on Friday

New York, NY – Two school records fell and two Cavaliers won their events for the Virginia indoor track and field team, while seven others placed in the top eight of their events at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, taking place in The Armory Track & Field Center in New York, N.Y., on Friday.

Fourth year Billie-Jo Grant and third year Yemi Ayeni both broke the program's shot put records. Grant finished first in the event for the women with a throw of 16.14m (52'11.5"), bettering the old record of 16.04m (52'9.75"), while Ayeni broke the men's record by .01cm. His throw of 17.63m (57'10.25") now holds the top spot.

Fifth year Kara Scanlin led the women’s side with a first place victory in the 3,000-meter run, finishing the event in a personal-best time of 9:44.85. Pushing Scanlin in the event was second year Stephanie Garcia who tied for fourth in the race, crossing the line in a season-best time of 9:46.77.

Third year Alexa Manning also completed a season-best throw in the shot put, with a mark of 48’11.75”.

Personal-bests on the track consisted of second year Diana Burk completing the 5,000-meter run in 17:29.07, good for seventh, while in the mid-distance races, first year Lyndsay Harper finished the 800-meter run in fifth place, with a time of 2:13.13.

On the men’s side, fourth year Ryan Foster picked up a sixth place finish in the 3,000-meter run, finishing the event in a personal-best 8:23.79, while second year Chris Clark also completed the event in a personal record time of 8:25.34. Fourth year Taylor Smith also set a personal mark in the 5000-meter distance event, finishing the run in 14:47.69.

In the 400-meter dash, first year Meikle Paschal recorded his best time of the season, at 49.38, while fourth year Reuben Jones beat his best time in the 60-meter dash, finishing the sprint in 6.79 seconds.

In field events, fourth year David Lewis tied for second place in the pole vault, with a jump of 15’9”.

The Cavaliers will finish the meet tomorrow. The event begins at 9 a.m., and is scheduled to conclude with an awards ceremony at 5:15 p.m.
