Jesien Wins Mile in Opening Day of Lou Onesty Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The rare men’s one-mile highlighted the opening day of the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational Friday at Lannigan Field. Cavalier junior Andrew Jesien won the event in a regional qualifying time of 4:05.02. David Groff, racing unattached, finished second in 4:08.03, while junior Kevin Tschirhart and senior Mike Hagos finished in the top four. Tschirhart took third in 4:08.26 and Hagos finished fourth in 4:09.62.

Also racing in the event was freshman Emil Heineking, who finished in 4:13.51, and sophomore Steve Finley, finishing in 4:14.67.

In field events, junior Alexa Manning took third and junior Amy Bilmanis finished fifth in the hammer throw. Manning threw 48.01m to qualify for the ECAC Championships, while Bilmanis threw a season-best 45.40. Sophomore Kyle Galle threw a distance of 45.82m for the men.

The remainder of the meet will continue tomorrow and conclude around 6:30 p.m. The men’s discus will open events at 9 a.m., while the women’s steeple will kick off events on the track at 11 a.m. The men’s 4x400m relay will mark the final event at 6:05 p.m.
