CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jeff Lorick (So., Duluth, Ga.), Robert Morey (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) and Michael Schwimer (Sr., Alexandria, Va.) collaborated on a two-hit shutout as Virginia earned a 3-0 win over Stony Brook in seven innings Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader at Davenport Field.
Lorick (2-0) tossed 4.2 innings and gave up two hits and three walks while striking out four. Morey pitched 1.1 innings of perfect relief, and Schwimer needed just five pitches in the seventh inning to record his fourth save and preserve Virginia’s first shutout of the season.
Stony Brook starting pitcher Matt Harloff (0-1) pitched well and went the distance, giving up three earned runs, five hits and a walk while striking out four. Jeremy Nowak had both hits for the Seawolves (4-6).
Jarrett Parker (Fr., Stafford, Va.) hit two triples, scored twice and drove home a run to lead the offense. Greg Miclat (Jr., Concord, Va.), Dan Grovatt (Fr., Tabernacle, N.J.) and Corey Hunt (So., Charlottesville, Va.) each added a hit for the Cavaliers.
Virginia (15-4) scored in the third inning when Miclat singled to plate Parker, who had tripled with one out.
The Cavaliers tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning, as Parker tripled to left-center to score Hunt and Cannon hit a sacrifice fly.
