CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Greg Miclat (Jr., Concord, N.C.) posted his third career four-hit game and Matt Packer (So., Germantown, Tenn.) tossed five strong innings as the No. 16 Virginia baseball team defeated Radford, 8-2, Tuesday at Davenport Field.

Miclat went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in and two stolen bases and reached base in all five of his plate appearances (hit by pitch in other at bat). Franco Valdes (So., Miami, Fla.) had two doubles, while Jarrett Parker (Fr., Stafford, Va.) had two hits and scored three times and David Adams (Jr., Margate, Fla.) posted two hits.

Packer (2-0) allowed just an earned run, two hits and two walks while striking out three and did not yield a hit until the fourth inning. Radford starter Cassidy McDaniel (0-1) allowed five earned runs, six hits and three walks over four innings as he took the loss.

Virginia (12-2) jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four innings. In the first, the Cavaliers scored an unearned run as Jeremy Farrell (Jr., Westlake, Ohio) walked with the bases loaded to bring home Miclat. In the second inning, UVa added a run on a two-out Miclat single to plate Parker.

UVa scored three times in the fourth inning. Parker stroked a single to bring home Phil Gosselin (Fr., West Chester, Pa.) and Miclat followed with a double to right-center to score John Barr (Fr., Ivyland, Pa.) and Parker.

Radford (7-5) scored a run in the fifth inning on a Nachion Moore groundout and another in the sixth on a Nate Toth RBI single, but the Cavaliers countered with two in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Cannon (So., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.) and a single by Adams.

The Cavaliers tacked on a run in the seventh on an RBI double by Valdes to score Farrell.

Virginia’s pitching staff was strong again, as Packer, Tyler Wilson (Fr., Midlothian, Va.), Neal Davis (So., Baltimore, Md.) and Jake Cowan (Fr., Roswell, Ga.) combined to allow just four hits while fanning seven.

Virginia plays host to Navy at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Davenport Field. Fans should be aware that baseball parking will only remain available in the University Hall parking lot because of the Kid Rock concert Wednesday evening at John Paul Jones Arena.
