CHARLOTTESVILLE—Jeff House is leaving his position as an assistant coach on the Virginia women’s basketball staff. UVa women’s head basketball coach Debbie Ryan made the announcement on Saturday (May 9).

“Jeff House has made significant contributions to our program, especially in the areas of recruiting and basketball strategy,” Ryan said. “We are in a better place because of his tenure here and we will miss him.”

House has been a Virginia assistant for the last four years. He joined the UVa staff after eight seasons in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). House was an assistant coach for one season with the Washington Mystics and spent seven seasons as a member of the New York Liberty staff.

“I am grateful for the wonderful opportunity afforded to me by the University’s athletic department, and particularly by Debbie Ryan, Craig Littlepage and Jane Miller,” House said. “Unfortunately, however, the time has come for me to move forward. A family emergency this past year presented difficult challenges. I leave at a time the program is in good condition, and I am extremely proud of its accomplishments during my tenure – returning to the NCAA Tournament with consecutive second round appearances and assembling the nation’s third-ranked recruiting class will help continue the great legacy of this program.

“I will cherish fond memories of my time on Grounds, and will miss my colleagues, the student-athletes and their families, all of whom have played such a large role in my life and the lives of my family. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Debbie Ryan, who has taught me so much about the world of women’s college basketball.”
