COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Virginia men’s swimming team continued competition Friday in the 2009 NCAA Championships at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on Texas A&M’s campus.

Sophomore Scot Robison collected his first individual All-America honor with a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle. The Charlotte, N.C., native finished in 1:33.22 and is the second top-5 finisher for the Cavaliers in the championships, joining Matt McLean who was third Thursday in the 500 freestyle.

Virginia’s 200 medley relay team of Eric Olesen, Ryan Hurley, Lee Robertson and Robison picked up honorable mention All-America honors after a 12th-place finish. The Cavalier foursome finished with a time of 1:26.22 in the consolation finals.

Senior Pat Mellors, swimming in his fourth and final NCAA championship, placed 15th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:45.96, also picking up honorable mention status. The honor was his fourth All-America accolade in the event and the eighth All-America nod of his career.

The third and final day of the NCAA Championships begins at noon Saturday with preliminaries in the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.
