Jill Krantz Named Associate AD For Intramural-Recreational Sports

CHARLOTTESVILLE-Jill Krantz, who has worked in Virginia's department of intramural-recreational sports since August of 2010, has been named associate athletics director for intramural-recreational sports at UVa. Virginia Athletics Director Craig Littlepage made the announcement on Friday (Jan. 6).

Krantz has been in the position on an interim basis since July of 2011. She came to Virginia as an assistant athletics director for intramural-recreational sports.

"I am pleased to announce that Jill Krantz is being promoted to the position of associate athletics director for intramural and recreational sports," Littlepage said. "Jill has the background, knowledge and enthusiasm to lead the University's intramural and recreation programs. I know she'll continue the great work that's been started in program and facility development. She'll also lead by bringing new ideas to the table in a variety of areas."

As associate athletics director for intramural-recreational sports, Krantz manages a comprehensive department that operates four indoor facilities and approximately 30 acres of outdoor athletic fields and courts. The department also offers instruction, participation, enrichment and competitive activities in program areas of fitness, intramural sports, informal recreation, club sports and outdoor recreation.

Krantz will also represent the department and provide leadership in supporting intercollegiate athletic teams that practice and compete in intramural-recreational facilities, serve as the principal departmental contact for University initiatives and projects, manage the department's budget and represent the department in facility planning projects.

"The intramural-recreational sports department has a history of success in providing UVa students with a broad range of recreation programs and facilities," Krantz said. "I'm excited to take on this new role in such a high quality organization that helps promote healthy lifestyles for students, faculty and staff."

Prior to coming to UVa, Krantz was the facility manager of the Chilson Recreation/Senior Center in Loveland, Colo., from November of 2003 to July of 2010. Among other positions she has held, as a principal with GreenPlay, LLC, she was involved in strategic planning for facility and recreation operations and management projects. She also served as the Recreation and Tourism Director/Instructor in the School of Business at the University of Colorado, and recreation supervisor for Onslow County, N.C.

Krantz earned her bachelor's degree in park and recreation administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She has master's degrees in public administration and in parks, recreation and tourism management from North Carolina State University.
