Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage announced Thursday (July 11) changes in responsibilities for four staff members within the Cavaliers' athletics department: Dirk Katstra, Valerie Richardson, Todd Goodale, and Luke Goldstein.
"We have moved into a second 10-year cycle pursuing ambitious department goals," Littlepage said. "In order to operate with even higher levels of achievement, we'll challenge our staff to do even more in supporting our student-athletes, coaches, and our 25 varsity sports. These changes reflect some important administrative functions assigned to talented people in whom I have great confidence."
Dirk Katstra, the executive director of the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF), has added the title of senior associate athletics director. In addition to supervising VAF and its staff and continuing to be a member of the department's senior management team, Katstra will assume the role of sport supervisor for the UVa's men's and women's swimming and diving programs. Katstra is in his 18th year as executive director of the VAF. He has recently led fundraising efforts for John Paul Jones Arena, Davenport Field, the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility and the renovation of Lannigan Field.
Valerie Richardson, the associate athletics director for sports programs and a member of the senior administrative team at UVa for the last five years, will take on the responsibility of supervising the sport of men's soccer. Richardson, a 1995 Stanford graduate, also participates on various ACC, UVa and departmental committees and has responsibilities in long-range planning and scheduling, policy and procedure development and implementation, and budgeting. She has served as both chair of the NCAA Honors Committee and as a member of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee.
Todd Goodale will take on the title of associate athletics director for external affairs. He will supervise the Virginia athletics ticket office, marketing and promotions, media relations, and video services departments and serve as a member of the senior administrative team. Goodale is also the University's licensing director. A 1994 Virginia graduate, Goodale received the Bus Male Service Award in 2005 and was named the department's employee of the year in 2010.
Luke Goldstein has been named the assistant athletics director for video services and will oversee that unit. Goldstein has been Virginia's director of football video operations since 2001. A former president of the Collegiate Sports Video Association, Goldstein served as director of league video operations for the XFL for one year before coming to UVa. From 1998 to 2000, he was the director of video operations at Southern California. Before that, he spent three years (1995-98) as assistant video director for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars and one year (1994-95) as a video engineer with ESPN.
