Charlottesville...UVa's fall sports are now mostly open. No site changes for home events are anticipated yet because of University Hall maintenance. The year to date record is 35-7-3(81.1%).

CROSS COUNTRY: Coach: Randy Bungard, second season at Virginia, record: 0-0. 1997-98 record: 0-0. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa goes to the Paul Short Invit.(Sat., Oct. 3, Bethlehem, PA, 9:30 AM).

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Coach: April Heinrichs, third season at Virginia, record: 32-14-5. 1998 record: 6-2-1. Last week, UVa played in the Coca Cola Classic(Portland 1-1 tied; Richmond 1-0 won) and VCU(tomorrow). This week, UVa plays VCU(tomorrow) and in the Lady Vol. Classic(Fri.-Sun., Oct. 2-4, 8:00 PM, 1:30 PM, away).

FIELD HOCKEY: Coach: Melissa Sanders, sixth season at Virginia, record: 76-39. 1998 record: 6-3. Last week, UVa played James Madison(2-1 lost) and Old Dominion(4-2 lost). This week, UVa plays Maryland(Sun., Oct., 4, 1:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field) and VCU(Wed., Oct. 7, 7:00 PM, U-Hall Turf Field).

VOLLEYBALL: Coach: Melissa Aldrich Shelton, fourth season at Virginia, record: 63-51. 1998 record: 12-2. Last week, UVa played Wake Forest(3-0 lost) and Duke(3-0 won).
