Jason Bauman has been a member of the Virginia athletics department staff since January of 1997. He was promoted to associate director of athletics for facilities and operations in November of 2000. He previously served as an assistant director of athletics for facilities and operations.
Bauman is in charge of the day-to-day supervision of UVa's athletic facilities, oversees the facilities and event management staffs, directs all elements of events management and manages capital projects. He is responsible for facility scheduling and planning, and the department's master schedule. Virginia's athletics facilities total approximately one million square feet.
He has been a department representative on several capital projects and renovations. Some of the projects include an $83 million football stadium expansion, $6 million football stadium concrete maintenance and waterproofing project, construction of a $5.5 million baseball stadium, a $2 million practice field conversion to an in-fill artificial turf system, and locker room renovations totaling $800,000.
Bauman also has administrative oversight of camps and clinics for each sport program.
He is responsible for a $5.4 million budget and manages 32 full-time employees.
Bauman serves as the athletics department's liaison to UVa facilities management, parking and transportation, and the University police department. He also oversees the department's concessions operation in conjunction with Aramark.
He is the game manager for Virginia's football and men's basketball events, and has served as the tournament director for numerous Atlantic Coast Conference championships, NCAA events and NIT games.
Bauman has chaired the ACC men's and women's swimming and diving committee, and been a member of the conference's committees on fan sportsmanship and officiating.
He is a member of the Virginia athletics department's external relations team and works with a number of areas to support department goals.
Bauman participated in the Athletic Directors' Institute sponsored by the Division I-A Athletic Directors' Association in July of 2006.
Before coming to Virginia, Bauman served as assistant athletic facilities coordinator at Kentucky. In that role, he managed the field house and assisted in overall facility operations and capital projects. He also was extensively involved in the game management of Kentucky intercollegiate athletic contests as well as Southeastern Conference and NCAA Championship events.
Bauman was field house manager at Kentucky from July of 1993 through June of 1995. Before that, he was an intern with the University of Kentucky Athletics Association from August of 1991 through June of 1993.
Bauman earned his master's degree in sport management from Western Illinois in December of 1991. He was assistant athletic business manager and assistant athletic ticket manager at Western Illinois from June of 1990 through July of 1991.
The native of Allison, Iowa, earned his bachelor's degree in business education from Buena Vista (Iowa) in 1990. While there, Bauman was a four-year letter winner and two-time all-conference selection on the baseball team.
Bauman and his wife, Kelly, have two daughters, Taylor and Brooke.
