Assistant Athletic Trainer

Craig Oates has been a staff athletic trainer at Virginia since 2016, where he works with the women's basketball team. Oates is responsible for the overall daily health care of UVA student-athletes, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for injuries and illnesses.

Prior to coming to Virginia, Oates spent four years at Campbell University, working primarily with the women's basketball, cross country and track and field teams.

Craig received his B.A. degree in Exercise and Sports Science-Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina in 2009. While at UNC, he worked with a variety of teams, including football, men's soccer, women's lacrosse, volleyball and men's and women's tennis.

The Sanford, N.C., native completed his graduate work at the University of Delaware, where he served as an athletic trainer for the Blue Hen's field hockey, baseball, and track and field teams.

Craig is also a member of NATA and MAATA, while also being involved in a variety of research projects during his time at UNC and UD.
