Assistant Director - Athletic Aid

Erin Abbey works for the University in its Student Financial Services department as an assistant director for athletic financial aid. She joined the staff in July of 2012 and is located in the athletics compliance department. She is responsible for monitoring student-athlete financial aid to ensure compliance with NCAA, ACC, and federal, state and institutional bylaws, rules and regulations.

Abbey is the primary liaison for financial aid services for athletics department staff and student-athletes. She coordinates the awarding and distribution of athletic and non-athletic financial aid to student-athletes and counsels prospective student-athletes and student-athletes and their families regarding financial aid matters. She assists in the administration of the National Letter of Intent and Student Assistant Fund program.

Abbey came to Virginia after working as the director of compliance at Oklahoma from September of 2011 to July of 2012. She previously worked as the assistant coordinator of compliance at Texas from April of 2010 to September of 2011.

Abbey attended Huntington University (Ind.) where she competed for the track & field and women's soccer teams. She was an NAIA Academic All-American and earned All-Ameria honors in track in 2002. In 2009 she was inducted into the school's athletics hall of fame. She graduated from Huntington in 2003 with a degree in educational ministries. She earned her master's degree in sports administration from Ball State in 2007 and received her Juris Doctorate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2010.

She has served as legal intern at The Ohio State University athletics compliance office and was an extern for the NCAA's Eligibility Center.

Abbey is a native of Millbury, Ohio.
