Assistant Media Relations Director

Steve Kirkland is in his 13th year at Virginia as an assistant athletics media relations director. He is the primary media relations contact for the Cavalier women's soccer, men's tennis and track & field/cross country programs and is the secondary contact for the Cavalier men's basketball program. He is responsible for writing and editing media guides, press releases and game programs, updating the web site, compiling statistics and coordinating interviews for those sports.

During his time at Virginia, Kirkland has also served as the primary contact for the Cavalier baseball, men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and women's tennis programs.

Kirkland came to Virginia after spending one year as a intern in the Athletic Communications department at Vanderbilt, working with the Commodores' women's soccer, men's tennis and women's tennis teams.

A native of Shippensburg, Pa., Kirkland earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Penn State in 2001. He worked as a student assistant in the Penn State Sports Information office all four years he was in school, working all home football, men's and women's basketball and women's soccer games, in addition to serving as the primary contact for men's tennis.
