Indoor Facility to Honor Coaching Legend

Art Markos is an assistant director for compliance at the University of Virginia. He monitors initial-eligibility, recruiting and playing seasons.

Markos is a long-time employee at UVa. Prior to his time in compliance, he was an assistant football coach at Virginia for 19 years and was part of one of the most successful times in the program's history. He also served as an assistant football coach for the U.S. Naval Academy for five years.

Markos was the athletic director and head football coach for the U.S. Naval Academy Prep School for four years, as well as the U.S. Naval Academy's J.V. Football Coach for two years.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Health, PE and Recreation from Springfield College in 1970. He earned his master's degree in Higher Ed Administration from the University of Virginia in 2008.

Markos has served on the committee for the ACC 2009 Compliance Summer Workshop. He also volunteers as an umpire for the Monticello Little League.

Markos currently resides in Earlysville, Va., with his wife, Nancy. They have two children, Lance and Wendy.
