Natalie Fitzgerald is the Director of Academic Affairs for Football. Her responsibilities include monitoring the academic performance and coordinating eligibility review for all student-athletes in the football program, managing and coordinating services with various departmental and University offices, coordinating student-athlete orientations, and maintaining appropriate files and records.
Her department oversees the academic advising, counseling and support for student-athletes including registration procedures, tracking degree requirements and academic performance, assisting with career planning and providing instruction on utilizing other University academic resources.
Prior to joining the UVa staff, Fitzgerald taught in the Alleghany County Public Schools system in Covington, Va., from 2004 to 2006. She was an instructor for Bath County Public Schools from 1984 to 2004. Her first teaching position was with the Covington City Schools from 1983 to 1984. She has worked as an adjunct instructor at the University of Virginia's Tempo Continuing Education Program from 1998-2000.
Fitzgerald completed her undergraduate degree in education from Concord College in 1983. She received her Masters in Education from Virginia in 1994. She completed additional training in learning disabilities from Old Dominion in 2003.
Fitzgerald has been very involved in a leadership capacity with various educational endeavors. During her years as a classroom teacher Fitzgerald served as the Chairperson the chairperson of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Peer Review from 2001 to 2004 having previously chaired that organization's Curriculum and Instructional and Staff Development committees.
She worked as a PALS testing coordinator from 1996 to 2001 and developed and implemented a community volunteer tutoring program during that same time period.
