Director of Academics, Olympic Sports



Sadie Royal is director of academics for Olympic sports at Virginia. Royal works as academic coordinator with the student-athletes of the baseball, women's lacrosse and men's and women's swimming and diving teams.

She monitors the progress of student-athletes toward their degree completion, conducts mentoring sessions with all first-year, transfer and at-risk students, and presents recruiting informational sessions to prospective student-athletes and their parents.

Royal previously worked at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., in the academic support services department. Her previous experiences include serving as the National Football Foundation Play It Smart Academic Coach at Clarke Central High School in Athens, Ga., where she worked with at-risk football student-athletes at all levels in high school and assisted with college counseling. While an academic coach at Clarke Central Royal interned for the University of Georgia's Student-Athlete Support Services as a tutor and mentor.

Royal earned a bachelor of arts in Spanish, bachelor of science in education in Sport Studies, and a bachelor of journalism in Telecommunication Arts from the University of Georgia in 2007. She continued at the University of Georgia to earn a masters of education in Sport Management in 2008.
