Charlottesville...UVa's fall sports are now moving toward the championship portion of their seasons. The year to date record is 60-19-4(74.7%).

FOOTBALL: Coach: George Welsh, 16th season at Virginia, record: 109-71-3. 1997-98 record, 4-3. Last week, UVa played Florida State(47-21 loss). This week, UVa plays Maryland(Sat., Nov. 1, Noon, away, JP-TV).

MEN'S SOCCER: Coach: George Gelnovatch, second season at Virginia, record: 26-5-6. 1997-98 record, 10-2-3. Last week, UVa played Duke(2-0 won). This week, UVa plays Mt. St. Mary's (Wed., Oct. 29, 5:00 PM, Kloeckner Stadium) and Old Dominion(Sat., Nov. 1, 7:30 PM, away).

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Coach: April Heinrichs, second season at Virginia, record: 25-9-3. 1997-98 record, 13-2-1. Last week, UVa played Clemson(2-0 loss). This week, UVa plays Maryland(Wed., Oct.. 29, 7:30 PM, Kloeckner Stadium) and North Carolina(Sun., Nov. 2, 1:00 PM, Kloeckner Stadium).
