Charlottesville...UVa's fall sports have now almost finished the championship portion of their seasons, while the winter sports are well under way. The year to date record is 91-32-4(73.2%).

FOOTBALL: Coach: George Welsh, 16th season at Virginia, record: 112-72-3). 1997-98 record: 7-4. Last week, UVa played Virginia Tech(34-20 won). This week, UVa awaits a potential bowl bid.

MEN'S SOCCER: Coach: George Gelnovatch, second season at Virginia, record:

33-6-6. 1997-98 record, 17-3-3. Last week, UVa played Georgetown in the NCAA second round( 5-1 won). This week, UVa hosts American Univ. in the NCAA Quarterfinals(Sat., Dec. 6, 1:00 PM, Klöckner Stadium).

MEN'S GOLF: Coach: Mike Moraghan, ninth season at Virginia, record: no dual meets. 1997-98, no dual matches. Last week, UVa played at the Mauna Kea Collegiate Invitational( 6th team). The fall season is now complete.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach: Jeff Jones, eighth season at Virginia, record: 138-86. 1997-98 record, 3-1. Last week, UVa played Delaware(64-57 won). This week, UVa plays Appalachian St.(tonight) and Duke(Sat., Dec. 6, 2:00 PM, away, RJ TV).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach: Debbie Ryan, 20th season at Virginia, record: 467-155. 1997-98 record, 5-0. This week, UVa played Virginia Tech(64-49 won) and VCU(61-54 won). This week, UVa plays St. Francis(PA)(Wed., Dec. 3, 7:00 PM, away) and Mt. St. Mary's(Mon., Dec. 8, 7:30 PM, University Hall).

SWIMMING: Coach: Mark Bernardino, 20th season at Virginia, record: 123-75 men, 138-57-1. 1997-98 record, 3-0 men, 2-1 women. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa hosts an Invitational Meet( Thur., Dec. 4-6, Smith Aquatics Center).

WRESTLING: Coach: Lenny Bernstein, fifth season at Virginia, record: 31-28. 1997-98 record, 0-0. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa goes to the Penn St. Open(Sat., Dec. 7, away).

INDOOR TRACK: Coach: Randy Bungard, first season at Virginia, record: no dual meets. 1997-98 record, no dual meets.
