Charlottesville...UVa's fall sports have now completed their seasons, while the winter sports are well under way. The year to date record is 107-49-5(68.0%).

MEN'S SOCCER: Coach: George Gelnovatch, second season at Virginia, record: 35-7-6. 1997-98 record, 19-4-3. Last month, UVa played St. Louis in the NCAA semifinals (3-1 won) and played UCLA in the NCAA Finals(2-0 loss). The season is now complete.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach: Jeff Jones, eighth season at Virginia, record: 144-92. 1997-98 record, 9-7. Recently, UVa played Connecticut(74-63 loss), VCU(73-67 won ), VMI(92-55 won), Nebraska (80-65 loss), Brigham Young (72-54 won), New Mexico St.(87-82 loss, ot), Wake Forest(73-64 won, ot), Liberty(69-64 loss), North Carolina(81-73 loss), and Virginia Tech(69-55 won). This week, UVa plays Georgia Tech(Thur., Jan. 15, 8:00 PM, University Hall, RJ-TV), NC State(Sun., Jan. 18, 1:30 PM, University Hall, RJ-TV), and Clemson(Tue., Jan. 20, 8:00 PM, away, RJ-TV).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach: Debbie Ryan, 20th season at Virginia, record: 473-158. 1997-98 record, 11-3. Recently, UVa played California(81-66 won), Santa Clara(62-60 won), Florida St.(75-62 won), Clemson(74-67 loss), Maryland(86-60 won), and NC State(67-59 loss). This week, UVa plays North Carolina(Thur., Jan. 15, 7:00 PM, away) and Wake Forest(Sun., Jan. 18, 7:30 PM, University Hall).

SWIMMING: Coach: Mark Bernardino, 20th season at Virginia, record: 124-75 men, 139-57-1. 1997-98 record, 4-0 men, 3-1 women. Recently, UVa saw action at the Georgia Diving Invitational(individual results only) and at Rowan(men won 47-33, women won 47-36). This week, UVA swims NC State(Sat., Jan. 17, Noon, Smith Aquatics Center).

WRESTLING: Coach: Lenny Bernstein, fifth season at Virginia, record: 33-33. 1997-98 record, 1-5. Recently, UVa wrestled at the Midlands Championships(15th, team, tie), the Dallas Duals (Wisconsin 23-16 loss; Oklahoma 31-9 loss; Brown 22-20 loss), and the Virginia Duals(Purdue 29-3 loss; Navy 19-18 loss). This week, defending champion UVa is at the State Meet(Fri.-Sat., Jan. 16-17, @James Madison).

INDOOR TRACK: Coach: Randy Bungard, first season at Virginia, record: no dual meets. 1997-98 record, no dual meets. Recently, UVa has been idle. Coming up, UVa has no action until Jan. 23-24(@USAIR Invit.).

MEN'S TENNIS: Coach Thomas Johnston, fifth season at Virginia, record, 54-38. 1997-98 record, no dual matches. Next week, UVa's opening event of the spring(!!!) calendar is the ACC Indoor Meet @ Clemson(Thur.-Sun., Jan. 22-25, at Clemson).

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Coach Phil Rogers, 16th season at Virginia, record: 165-148. 1997-98 record, 2-1(Fall).
