Charlottesville...UVa's winter sports are well under way, with the spring sports just starting play. The year to date record is 112-50-5(68.6%).

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach: Jeff Jones, eighth season at Virginia, record: 145-93. 1997-98 record, 10-8. Last week, UVa played Georgia Tech(83-65 loss) and NC State( 59-56 won), and Clemson(tonight). This week, UVa plays Duke(Sat., Jan. 24, noon, University Hall, CBS-TV) and Wake Forest(Tue., Jan. 27, 8:00 PM, away, RJ-TV).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach: Debbie Ryan, 20th season at Virginia, record: 475-158. 1997-98 record, 13-3. Last week, UVa played North Carolina(105-100 won, 3ot) and Wake Forest(65-55 won). This week, UVa plays Duke(Fri., Jan, 23, 7:00 PM, away) and Old Dominion(Tue., Jan. 27, 7:00 PM, @Richmond, HTS-TV).

SWIMMING: Coach: Mark Bernardino, 20th season at Virginia, record: 125-75 men, 140-57-1. 1997-98 record, 5-0 men, 4-1 women. Last week, UVa swam NC State(men 125-116 won, women 152-89 won). This week, UVa swims North Carolina(Sat., Jan. 24, Noon, 3:00 PM, away).

WRESTLING: Coach: Lenny Bernstein, fifth season at Virginia, record: 33-33. 1997-98 record, 1-5. Last week, UVa wrestled in the State Meet(team first, six individual weight class winners, plus Jim Harshaw MVP ). This week, UVa wrestles North Carolina(Fri., Jan. 23, 7:30 PM, Memorial Gym), Virginia Tech(Sat., Jan. 24, 2:00 PM, Memorial Gym), and The Citadel(Sat., Jan. 24, 5:00 PM, Memorial Gym).

INDOOR TRACK: Coach: Randy Bungard, first season at Virginia, record: no dual meets. 1997-98 record, no dual meets. Last week, UVa was idle. This week, UVa travels to Johnson City, TN, for the USAIR Invit.(Fri.-Sat., Jan. 23-24, away).

MEN'S TENNIS: Coach Thomas Johnston, fifth season at Virginia, record, 54-38. 1997-98 record, no dual matches. Last week, UVA was idle. This week, UVa's opening event of the spring(!!!) calendar is the ACC Indoor Meet @ Clemson(Thur.-Sun., Jan. 22-25, at Clemson).

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Coach Phil Rogers, 16th season at Virginia, record: 165-148. 1997-98 record, 2-1(Fall). Last week, UVa was idle.
