Virginia Dance Team
The Virginia Dance Team practices between two and two-and-a-half hours three timtes a week. During the fall and spring semesters, the team also holds two mandatory team conditioning workouts each week. Additional practices are scheduled during the summer to prepare for football season. Members of the Virginia Dance Team may be involved in other organizations offered at the University as long as their committed to the Virginia Dance Team is not impacted.
Members of the Virginia Dance receive a book stipend during the fall and spring semesters. The amount varies depending upon the number of years a student has been a member of the team. Scholarships are not offered to members of the Virginia Dance Team.
Learn great new skills and choreography from the Virginia Dance Team! In one of four day camps, members of the team will visit your school to help improved basic dance technique and teach various halftime routines of your choice, including: pom, kick, jazz, or hip-hop. Schedule your camp today!

- 2 days: $125/participant
- 3 days: $150/participant
- 4 days: $185/participant

The documents listed below may be downloaded by clicking here and must be completed for an individual to be eligible to tryout.
- Medical Identification Form
- Tryout Participation Waiver
- Physician's Affirmation of Physical Fitness to Participate
- A copy of the front and back of your insurance card.
- *GPA Tryout Requirement: 2.4 (current UVa students must bring proof of GPA to the first day of tryouts)
Tryout Dates and Location
April 7-9, 2017
- Friday, April 7, 6-9 p.m., John Paul Jones Arena (use the student entrance that faces Massie Road)
- Saturday, April 8, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., John Paul Jones Arena
- Sunday, April 9, 2-5 p.m., John Paul Jones Arena
Tryout Fee: $20 cash or check made payable to UVA Dance Team
Please be sure to bring the paperwork and tryout fee to the first day of tryouts (April 7)
Question: I am on the University's waitlist for admission. May I still tryout? Answer: Yes, transfers and waitlisted students are encouraged to tryout. Incoming students who are selected but have not been accepted to the University of Virginia will have until June 1 to be accepted. Coaches and athletic department staff do not have any influence on your acceptance to the University of Virginia.
Question: Is prior dance experience required? Answer: Prior dance and/or cheer experience is not required, but is strongly encouraged.
