UVa's 800 Freestyle Relay Team Finishes 15th At NCAA Meet

INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Virginia's 800 freestyle relay team finished 15th Friday (March 21) at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Virginia team of Rebecca Cronk (Charlottesville, Va.), Emily Trakas (Herndon, Va.), Sharon Riedlinger (Laurel, Md.) and Emily Carrig (Richmond, Va.) finished in a time of 7:24.48. Southern Methodist University won the event with a time of 7:09.92.

Carrig had the top finish by a UVa swimmer in an individual event on Friday. She finished tied for 29th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.92. Trakas finished 48th in the 200 freestyle (1:52.06).

Virginia's Kori Forster (New Orleans, La.) finished 33rd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.12 seconds. The Cavaliers' Meg McCubbins (Richmond, Va.) was 35th in that event with a time of 56.17 seconds.

All of the UVa swimmers competing in the meet are freshmen. The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships conclude on Saturday (March 22).

UVa'S 200 Freestyle Relay Team Finishes 14th at NCAA Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.--The University of Virginia's 200 freestyle relay team finished 14th Thursday (March 20) at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Virginia team of Rebecca Cronk (Charlottesville, Va.), Julie Gehm (Richmond, Va.), Emily Trakas (Herndon, Va.) and Meg McCubbins (Richmond, Va.) finished in a time of 1:33.83.

Cronk had the top finish by a UVa swimmer in an individual event on Thursday. She finished 25th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.11 seconds. Three other Virginia swimmers competed in the 50 freestyle with Gehm finishing tied for 39th (23.52), McCubbins 47th (23.58) and Trakas 57th (23.74).

Emily Carrig (Richmond, Va.) finished 34th in the 500 freestyle (4:52.89) and Sharon Riedlinger (Laurel, Md.) was 40th (4:56.18) in that event.

Kori Forster (New Oreleans, La.) finished 56th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.71.

All of the UVa swimmers competing in the meet are freshmen. The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships continue through Saturday (March 22).
