GREENSBORO, N.C.--The Virginia men's swimming and diving team broke a school record on the first day of the ACC Championship Wednesday (Feb. 26) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

After the first day, UVa is in a tie for fourth place with Florida State at 102, behind NC State (128), Virginia Tech (110) and Notre Dame (104). North Carolina is sixth with 96, followed by Georgia Tech (92), Pittsburgh (90), Duke (84) and Boston College (68).

The 200 medley relay of senior Jack Murfee (Nashville, Tenn.), sophomore Yannick Kaeser (Mumpf, Switzerland) and juniors David Ingraham (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Charlie Rommel (East Amherst, N.Y.) broke the school record and finished fourth in an NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 1:24.98. That time broke the old school record of 1:25.99, which was set back in 2009.

"Our medley relay had an outstanding race to break the school record and show that we are ready to swim fast this weekend," UVa head coach Augie Busch said.

In the 800 free relay, the team of Ingraham, senior Parker Camp (Brentwood, Tenn.), sophomore Luke Papendick (Kinnelon, N.J.) and senior Brad Phillips (Herndon, Va.) placed fifth in an NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 6:23.84.

The action continues Thursday (Feb. 27) with prelims at 11 a.m. and finals at 7 p.m. of the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free.

Note: Scores from diving, which was contested last week, are added in each of the next three days.
