Virginia Diving Teams Compete in Georgia Invitational

Courtney Colbert Places Eighth on One Meter Board

ATHENS, Ga.- Freshman Courtney Colbert (Brown Deer, Wis.) placed eighth on the one meter springboard as the University of Virginia men's and women's diving teams took part in the Georgia Diving Invitational, which began today in Athens, Ga. Colbert had a score of 320.30 in the finals, which were won by Jamie Tomazich of Pittsburgh with a total of 416.15.

In the preliminary round, Colbert finished in seventh place with a score of 341.30. Among the other Cavaliers taking part in the preliminary competition, sophomore Katie Caratelli (Westlake, Ohio) was ninth with a score of 334.00, senior Jennifer Stewart (Baltimore, Md.) finished 15th with a total of 315.55, freshman Laramie Hill (Clifton, Va.) placed 20th with a score of 304.85, and freshman Ashley Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) was 21st with a total of 299.30.

In the men's three meter springboard competition, freshman Andy Cunningham (Louisville, Ky.) placed 11th in the preliminary round with a score of 386.40. Gabi Chereches of Tennessee won the event with a total of 521.40 in the finals.

The Georgia Diving Invitational will continue on Sunday and Monday, Jan. 4 and 5.
