GREENSBORO, N.C.—Four members of the Virginia swimming and diving program earned Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday (Jan. 22). Sophomore JB Kolod and freshman Katie Warburg were named Male and Female Diver of the Week, respectively, and junior Brad Phillips earned Male Swimmer of the Week. Sophomore Ellen Williamson claimed Co-Female Swimmer of the Week along with NC State junior Zina Grogg.

Warburg helped the No. 10 Cavalier women defeat No. 16 North Carolina on Saturday with a win on the 1-meter boards and a second-place finish on the 3-meter. Later that evening, the native of Wilton, Conn., swept the diving events against Duke and broke the school record on the 3-meter (316.05).

Kolod led the No. 15 men’s divers last weekend, sweeping the springboard events in dual meets against North Carolina and Duke on Saturday. Against the Tar Heels, the native of Pittsburgh, Pa., broke the school record on the 3-meter with a score of 392.17. He also bettered his UVa and broke the pool record on the 3-meter (418.05) and set the school record on the 1-meter (369.30) later that day against the Blue Devils.

Phillips’ performance in the distance events helped the Cavaliers defeat No. 22 North Carolina on Saturday. Swimming in the 500 free, he finished in 4:24.81 to beat out the field and finished in second in the 1000 free (9:11.73). The Herndon, Va., native added victories in the 200 free and 400 IM against Duke on Sunday.

Williamson won the 100 fly (54.44) and 200 IM (2:00.74) to help clinch the victory for Virginia over rival North Carolina. The next day against Duke, the Ft. Mitchell, Ky., native won the 200 back and finished second in the 100 back.

With these four awards, the Cavaliers have earned seven conference weekly honors this season. Senior Lauren Perdue (Greenville, N.C.), junior Rachel Naurath (Manakin-Sabot, Va.) and freshman Courtney Bartholomew (Holland, Mich.) were honored in the fall.

The Cavaliers return to action next weekend when they face Wisconsin and Virginia Tech in a tri-meet with three sessions that will be similar to the NCAA Championships in March. The action begins Friday (Jan. 25) at 5:40 p.m. and continues Saturday (Jan. 26) at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Diving will occur at 3 p.m. Friday and immediately after the first session concludes on Saturday.
