CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Virginia swimming and diving head coach Augie Busch announced Wednesday (April 23) that Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Jack Smith (Stoke-on-Trent, England) have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Cavalier men for the 2014-15 season.

Casey and Smith join the group of Jack Bowtell, Luke Georgiadis, Nicholas Magana, Anthony Marcantonio and Henrik Pohlmann, who all signed in the fall.

• Will compete for England at the 2014 European Junior Championships in July
• Earned silver as part of the 4x100m free relay at the 2013 European Junior Championships in Poznan, Poland
• Placed sixth as the anchor leg for the 4x100m medley relay and qualified for the semifinals and finished 12th in the 100m free at the same meet
• Age-group national champion in the 100m free and age-group record holder in 50m free 

Busch on Smith: “We are so excited to have Jack join our program. We feel he is going to do special things here. He is a great talent whose freestyle speed will immediately impact our relays. He is excited to come to the United States for school and I feel like his attitude will only enhance the culture we are working to establish. The coaches and I are delighted he chose UVa, and now it is time to help him achieve great things as a part of our men's team.”
