Five Cavaliers Named Scholar All-Americans, Women's Team Recognized

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Five members of the Virginia swimming and diving program have been named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-Americans, the association announced Tuesday (July 17). Additionally, the UVa women's swimming and diving squad has been recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team. Rising junior Emily Lloyd (Severna Park, Md.) and rising sophomore Alison Haulsee (Glen Allen, Va.) of the women's program and graduated senior Briggy Imbriglia (Springfield, Va.) of the men's team were named to the Scholar All-America Team. Rising sophomores Shaun Casey (Port Orange, Fla.) and Kelly Offutt (Reisterstown, Md.) were recognized on the Honorable Mention Scholar All-America squad.

Lloyd is a three-time All-American and a four-time ACC Champion as part of UVa relays. She competed in the 50- and 200-yard freestyle at the 2012 NCAA Championships and was a U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the 50- and 100-meter free events. She was named to the All-ACC Academic team for the second consecutive year in 2012.

Haulsee was a 2012 honorable mention All-American with a 16th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA Championships. She also competed in the 500 free at the national meet. She was an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 200m and 400m free, the 100m and 200m fly and the 200-meter individual medley. She was listed on the All-ACC Academic squad in her first season with the Cavaliers.

Imbriglia earned an honorable mention All-America citation with a 13th-place finish on the platform in his final year as part of the Cavalier diving program. He won the platform event at the 2012 NCAA Zone A Championships, his third NCAA Zone Championship appearance.

Casey was named to the All-ACC Academic team in her first season with the Cavaliers. She was a finalist in the 200 IM at the conference meet and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100m fly, 200m fly, 200m free and 200 IM.

 

 

Offutt was also named to the All-ACC Academic squad in her first year at UVa. She was a finalist in three events at the ACC Championships, including the 200, 500 and 1,650 free. She qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 400m free.

The CSCAA team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The CSCAA Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for their respective national championship. Those who reached an NCAA "B" standard, but did not qualify for the national championships were listed on the honorable mention team.
