GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Virginia track and field team placed two Cavaliers on the 2011 All-ACC Academic Indoor Track and Field Teams, as announced today by the conference office. Senior Ayla Smith was named to the women's all-academic team, while junior Kevin Anding was honored on the men's side.

Smith, making her second appearance on the All-ACC Academic Indoor Team, earned her first All-America honor this indoor season as a member of the Cavaliers' distance medley relay team. The Winchester, Va., native ran the 400m leg of the relay and helped the squad of seniors Stephanie Garcia and Lyndsay Harper, in addition to junior Morgane Gay, earn a third-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. The foursome was UVa's first women's DMR team to advance to the national meet and finished the year with the second-fastest time in the NCAA. That time, a mark of 10:59.33, shattered Virginia's all-time program record in the event, set 28 years ago (11:19.39).

Anding, from Houston, Texas, is making his third-consecutive appearance on the All-ACC Academic Indoor Team. The sprinter earned his first all-conference accolade in the open 400m during the 2011 ACC Championships, finishing third in 47.46. That mark ranks second all-time at UVa.

Anding was also a member of the Cavaliers' 4x400m relay that finished fourth at ACCs and ran the 400m leg on Virginia's DMR squad that finished with a season-best time of 9:34.38 at the Alex Wilson Invitational.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her academic career.
