Ravi Smith is in his fourth season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Virginia track and field team after joining the program in September of 2010. Smith primarily works with the sprinters, hurdlers and relays, including the men's 4x400m relay that won gold at the 2012 ACC Championships at Lannigan Field.

Smith had previously been the head track and cross country coach at Southfield-Lathrup High School from 2003-2010. Smith guided the Southfield-Lathrup girls track team to two regional championships, two county Championships, a league championship and three top-five finishes at the Michigan State Championships. He guided five athletes to indivudual state championships and 16 to All-State honors.

Smith is currently a dual-degree student at the University of Virginia School of Law and Darden School of Business. Smith earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, a secondary teaching certification in math and physics, and a master's degree in education from the University of Michigan in 2001, 2002, and 2008 respectively. Smith competed with the University of Michigan track team from 1996 to 2001.
