BLACKSBURG, Va.--The Virginia men's track and field team opened the 2016 indoor season at the Virginia Tech Invitational Friday (Jan. 15).

"There is always a lot of learning after the first competition of the year and this one was no exception," UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. "One can walk away one of two ways, either you are right where you want to be or you have a lot of work to do to be where you want to be. It can be a wake up call or a confidence booster.

"I look forward to having the entire team compete next week at Kentucky. It will be a much better indicator of where we are."

Sophomore Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.23, while freshman Charles Bowman (Harrisburg, Pa.) finished third in 8.27.

Bowman also placed third in the 300 meters in 34.82, fifth on UVA's all-time freshman list. Fellow freshman Jake Dixon (Falmouth, Maine) finished sixth in 35.33.

In the 500 meters, junior Nathan Kiley (Chantilly, Va.) finished third in 1:03.80.

Redshirt sophomore Jeff Jernigan (DeKalb, Ga.) placed third in the unseeded pole vault, hitting a height of 4.60m (15' 1").

In the 1,000 meters, freshman Robby Keough (Atlanta, Ga.) finished sixth in 2:29.85, while sophomore Logan Carrington (Leesburg, Va.) placed eighth in 2:32.49.

The meet concludes Saturday (Jan. 16) with action set to begin at 11 a.m.
