BOSTON—Personal records in the distance events highlighted the Virginia women’s track and field team’s action at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational Friday (Jan. 29) at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston.

“It was not exactly what we had hoped,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “We have high expectations for everyone, but it was not a total loss. Each week is an opportunity to learn and grow and the season is still early for this young team. We have to keep learning from each competition. I think the delayed return home from Kentucky with all of the snow gave us a really short week and took its toll a bit.”

In the mile, graduate student Iona Lake (Norwich, England) placed sixth in 4:44.28, which ranks 10th on UVA’s all-time list, while sophomore Caroline Clark finished 10th in 4:50.60.

Junior Cleo Boyd (Kingston, Ontario) recorded a personal record in the 3,000m, finishing 13th in 9:37.80.

Senior Peyton Chaney (Belleville, Ill.) finished fifth in the 200m in 24.23, while junior Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.) and junior Tori McKenzie (Chatham, Va.) finished 17th and 18th, respectively.

Junior Chimere Ezumah (Gardena, Calif.) crossed the line eighth in the 500m in 1:14.24, while sophomore Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) finished 18th.

In the 800m, freshman Alexia Roux (Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland) finished 16th in 2:11.34, which ranks fourth on UVA’s all-time freshman list.

The 4x400m relay team of Wright, Chaney, junior Micah Brickhill (Buckingham, Va.) and Ezumah placed eighth in 3:46.45.

The Virginia men are in action at the meet Saturday (Jan. 30) with Cavalier action scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m.
